| For Information: 'Hawker Siddeley Aviation' became part of the nationalised 'British Aerospace' (BAe) on 29th April 1977. 'BAe' then carried out all future Buccaneer development and modifications, until the type retired from operational service with the Royal Air Force on 31st March 1994. To enable the Buccaneer to be compatible with the 'BAe Dynamics' Sea Eagle anti-ship missile system, 20 RAF Buccaneer S.Mk.2B were initially upgraded between 1984 and 1986. A total of 42 Buccaneer S.Mk.2B subsequently underwent the full 'Avionics Upgrade Programme' ASR.1012 between 1987 and 1990. This model includes specific examples of ASR.1012 upgraded Buccaneer S.Mk.2B aircraft that were also retrofitted with Mod.1736 replacement smaller wingtips (to extend airframe flying hours by reducing wing loading). A variety of offensive payloads are included such as: 'Sea Eagle' anti-ship missiles, 'Martel' anti-radar missiles, 'Pavespike' Laser designation pod, 'Paveway' Laser-guided bomb and H.E. bombs. For self-defence: AIM-9G/9L 'Sidewinder' missiles, Chaff and Flare dispensers and ECM pod. |
